When I arrived at Meewasin park for my very first sibling session with the Miller sisters, I was filled with nervous excitement. After Alysha reached out to me about scheduling a session with her sisters, I was over the moon and immediately started exploring new poses and ideas I could try with this group of ladies. And this gang ended up being one of the most fun groups I’ve ever gotten to work with!
We began with brief introductions and started our walk through the park, searching for that perfect spot where the golden hour sun could peek through the trees. After we’d found it, Meagan remarked “Oh I forgot we were going to take pictures! I thought we were just hanging out!” That’s how I know I’m doing alright making clients feel comfortable and at ease at our session!! These girls were bubbly and excited and I loved tagging along while they bounced around giggling at their old inside jokes and joined in as they made new ones.
This session was in the early days of me trying to move towards more storytelling and natural moments in my photography, and the girls were happy to do a mix of gentle posing and candid prompting, along with incorporating their own suggestions for both silly and serious poses. This is why I prioritize continuous communication and a trusting relationship with clients. They trusted me to capture their story and my vision in a beautiful way, and were comfortable giving input of their own.
I’ve been thinking a lot lately about womanhood, feminism, and the way women exist alongside one another in society. Online it can feel like there’s so much noise: negative energy, performative support, comparison, criticism, pressure to fit a mold, pressure to break it. I know those patterns come from deep and complicated places, and they won’t disappear overnight, but I still wish that every experience among women could be grounded in love, support, softness, and genuine celebration of one another.
This evening with the Miller sisters felt exactly like that. Wholesome, joyful, and overflowing with fun. During their group photos they couldn’t stop hugging and giggling. And during individual portraits the energy was unmatched. While I had one girl in front of the camera, I had the other three behind it squealing in excitement, giving pose ideas, and yelling compliments.
It brought me so much joy to experience how these girls cheered each other on, and to see that joy and love present on their face in every photograph.
You don't need a milestone or a big reason to celebrate the people who matter most. Sometimes the joy is enough.
If this kind of connection speaks to you, let's chat about making it into something tangible you can hold onto forever. Whether its your siblings, your best friends, or anyone you love deeply, I'd be honored to help you tell your story.
